PDF Display and Customer Group Restrictions in OpenCart PDF Catalog Extension
Purpletree OpenCart PDF catalogue/manual/brochure extension provides great functionalities for adding PDFs such as product information guides, product manuals, and catalogues for your products. You can add more than one PDF for a product, set a PDF name, and define the sort order for each PDF. PDFs appear according to the specified sort order on the product page of your OpenCart store.
In the PDF extension, you can easily add PDF icons of your choice, set a custom heading, and give each PDF a unique name. As shown in the image below, you can have a custom heading for PDFs like "Camera Specification," with each PDF name (e.g., User Manual, Warranty Information, Design Specification) displayed on the product detail page.
This guide will walk you through configuring your OpenCart store to control which customer groups can view PDFs and ensure that PDFs open in a new browser tab instead of downloading.
Admin Configuration
Navigate to the Products Section:
Log in to your OpenCart Admin panel.
Go to Catalog > Products.
Click Edit on the desired product.
Configure PDF Display Options:
In the product editing page, locate the new options:
PDF Open New Tab: This option ensures that PDFs open in a new browser tab instead of downloading.
PDF Customer Group: Select the customer groups that will be allowed to view the PDFs.
Set PDF Display Restrictions:
Check the relevant customer groups to control PDF visibility.
Save your changes.
Frontend Behavior
PDF Viewing:
On the product page, when a customer clicks on the PDF link, it will now open in a new tab.
The file will not automatically download to the user's computer, enhancing the browsing experience.
PDF Visibility:
Only customers in the selected groups will be able to view the PDF data.
